PCOctober 2026

This page is for the moment you press Play and the game never reaches the menu: nothing opens, the screen stays black, or it sits on the splash image. If star wars galactic racer wont start for you, first install the October 8, 2026 hotfix and update your graphics driver when the game asks. If it still will not open on a Windows PC, the fix that has worked for several players is turning off the Windows hypervisor, or Intel VMX virtualization in the BIOS.

What should you check first?

Update the game and restart

Restart the game, then your PC. Make sure Windows and the game are fully updated. The October 8 hotfix raised the minimum graphics driver the game checks at boot.

Update the driver if the game asks

If the boot check says your driver is too old, update it through your Nvidia, AMD or Intel software. The game has not published the exact minimum version, so go by its prompt.

Give the first launch extra time

After a driver update, the next launch is slower because the game rebuilds its shader cache. If the splash screen hangs right after you updated, wait for shader loading before you force-quit. You know you are through when the game moves past the splash image.

Also check that the game sits on an SSD. Both the minimum and recommended specs require one, along with Windows 10, 12 GB RAM and an RTX 2060, Arc A580 or RX 5600 XT 6GB. The full table is on the star wars galactic racer crashing page, together with the hidden driver warning behind the key art and the file verification steps.

Does turning off the hypervisor fix it?

For some PCs, yes. On October 6, 2026, a player with an i9-13900K, RTX 3090 and Windows 10 got the game to launch after disabling the Windows hypervisor:

  1. Open PowerShell as administrator.
  2. Run bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype off.
  3. Restart your PC and launch the game.

The hypervisor powers Windows features such as virtual machines, so this is a workaround, not a setting to leave off forever. The same player needs it for work. To turn it back on, run bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype auto and restart.

It does not work for everyone. Another player tried the same command the next day and the game still would not start.

If the command does nothing: turn off VMX in the BIOS

One player found the command line did nothing for them, but disabling Intel (VMX) Virtualization Technology in the BIOS, under CPU configuration, got the game running. This is a bigger change than the command, so try the command first and only go into the BIOS if it fails. Write down what you changed so you can switch it back.

Other startup traps the developers have listed

These come from the developers' known issues list from launch week. They only apply to the hardware or setup named.

  • Steam Deck looks frozen: when the Epic Online Services overlay fails to appear, the game can look hung. Press B to return to the game.
  • Fullscreen and Alt+Tab: switching app focus while in Fullscreen can make the monitor flicker and the system stop responding. Avoid switching apps while the game loads.
  • Intel Arc A580 with Resizable BAR off: this can cause flickering and a distorted picture.
  • Nvidia RTX 50 series with Frame Generation and DLSS: this was listed as a crash on October 6. The October 8 hotfix added DLSS stability fixes, so update first before you turn those options off.

Verify or reinstall?

Many fix videos tell you to verify the game files, reinstall the game, or reinstall Epic Online Services. Those are general steps; no one has shown they reliably fix this game's launch failure. Verifying files is cheap, so it is fine to try; a full reinstall costs you a 50 GB download for an uncertain result.

Still not launching?

Contact the official Customer Support Centre. On the support page, choose Submit a request in the top right and pick Technical issues. Include your platform, region, when it happened, what you did right before, any error message, a screenshot or video, whether it happens every time, and the steps above you already tried. A clear report gets you a faster answer than "it won't open".

Once the game opens, keep the star wars galactic racer crashing page handy for mid-race crashes and freezes, and set up your view with the STAR WARS: Galactic Racer™ first person guide.
